VIDEO-GAMING / LP SERIES PART 2 - art games

Image
& now I come to our next game.  Again I had heard about it, but I didn’t pursue it until VERY recently – try a week & a half ago recently.   I had been PLANNING to watch the playlist pewdiepie had complied since he came out with it [January], but life happened.   [You can view that playlist here:   But it was WORTH THE WAIT.  Let wiki tell you the rest: In   Journey   the player controls a robed figure in a vast desert, traveling towards a mountain in the distance. Other players on the same journey can be discovered, one at a time, along the way; two players that meet can assist each other, but they cannot communicate via speech or text and cannot see each other's names. The only form of communication between the two is a wordless shout. This shout also transforms dull, stiff pieces of cloth found throughout the levels into vibrant red, affecting the game world and allowing the player to progress through the levels. The robed figure...

VIDEO-GAMING / LP SERIES PART 1 - art games

You may not know it from this blog, but on my main tumblr blog, I post a lot of let’s play videos & gaming videos.  & I know this is more of an “art-oriented” blog, but I want to talk about video games & gaming culture for a little bit.  Because I can.  Because it’s my blog.  So deal with it.   Video games are a medium that isn’t always addressed.  Most art buffs take an elitist stance on the matter [ but then again when DON’T they take an elitist stance on things? ]  Yes there are a lot of first-person-shooter games, but even THOSE games have finesse & quality graphics nowadays.  It takes sometimes hundreds of people just to make the pixels that make up that man running across the screen with a gun & all the game physics keeping his world together with all the objectives & environment graphics & gameplay.  People who can’t get past the PAINTINGS ARE THE ONLY ART THERE NOT OTHER SUBSTI...

Clara Lieu  -  Wading series “This project presents the most severe form of isolation as loneliness that is experienced when physically surrounded by other people. This is a specific form of loneliness that is involuntary and imposed upon by others, creating a state of discontent characterized by bitterness and a sense of punishment. The presence of others is what can heighten and intensify the experience of loneliness for an individual.” blue-voids

weareconstance : New Orleans photographer,  Akasha Rabut  has started documenting the transformation of John MacDonough High School’s transition into a charter school, focusing on extra curricular groups and sports teams that meet after school. For over 25 years, “John Mac”, which is located in New Orleans’ 7th ward, has been notorious for its violence, low performance, and winning athletic programs. Consistently ranked as one of the most dangerous and poor quality high schools in the nation, it has been likened to a dumping ground for dead-end students. This work is an introduction to the students and first installment of a project that explores adolescents developing identities.  See more from the  John Mac High  series.

greydotmatters : LiTer I - IV, 2012 | MO(U)RNING Exhibit Zanele Muholi Silver gelatin print Edition of 5 + 2AP  MO(U)RNING, a solo exhibition by visual activist and photographer Zanele Muholi. For Muholi, MO(U)RNING evokes death but also suggests the cycle of life as morning follows night. Life and death, love and hate are some of the antitheses that appear throughout her work. In April this year, Muholi’s Cape Town apartment was burgled in what was apparently an attack directed at her visual activism. The lost material was an extensive archive of photographic work, videos and texts documenting hate crimes in South Africa and gender issues in Africa. Among this material was the Queercide project, created by Muholi to denounce and record hate crimes and atrocities committed against lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex (LGBTI) people. The loss of this material raised many questions for Muholi. What happen when such images disappear or when a collec...

therhumboogie : By  Antony Gormley , this immersive installation used dense fog to disorientate and engage the viewers senses, often causing groups of people entering the space to loose one another, and emerge from the space by themselves. ‘You enter this interior space that is the equivalent of being on top of a mountain or at the bottom of the sea. It is very important for me that inside it you find the outside. Also you become the immersed figure in an endless ground, literally the subject of the work.’
