FRINGE

Image
Fringe is one of the best shows out there. & this is my feeble attempt @ trying to persuade you to watch. http://fuckyeahfringefox.tumblr.com/tags   is a great resource to start with.  That & Wikipedia.  But the tumblr site is fine when you want to visually browse @ your leisure.  Also the information is straight from the superfans.  & superfans give great intel.  The superfans give you all the info & pics you could ever want, in addition to lovely little easter eggs about the main characters, the relationships of those characters [romantic or otherwise], comic con things, & other Fringe-isms about the mythology of the show.  It’s a fabulous resource. Here is an example of some of the “graphics” they’ll post [it’s a bit spoiler-y because it’s all the funerals, so maybe if you want to stay spoiler free, don’t click]: http://fuckyeahfringefox.tumblr.com/post/31981199310/littletorv-walter-im-stepping-out-for-a F...

art pitch blog post

This is the blog post version, so it probably will not be the same as the finished products that I printed out.  Just a warning / disclaimer. Last year I purchased a book that has the 200 Best Illustrators Worldwide.  It’s a huge thing with over 300 pages.  Most of it is just glossy colorful pages – as it should be.  & most of it features the 200 best illustrators from around the world – as it should because that’s what the title said. Here you have illustrators from all walks of illustrating life: illustrators for products & for advertising; illustrators for magazine editorial accompaniments; illustrators for calendars & cards; illustrators for books & graphic novels; illustrators for mass media & posters; & all those that fall in between or partake in all of the above. @ the back there is an alphabetical index of all of the different artists, countries, categories, & the page / s they fall on.  It’s a great resour...

that more musical analysis of the pearl fishers

I swear I'm not trying to act like Damon, but this is my more musical take on my orginal post from here:  http://fantasmicalteal.blogspot.com/2012/09/the-pearl-fishers.html For my concert, I went to the San Jose Opera’s rendition of Georges Bizet’s The Pearl Fishers.  It is an opéra tragédie – as opposed to a comedie / opera comique, where there are happier songs & a usually happy ending [however this does not mean that the comédie is free from struggle or sorrowful parts; they are just happier in comparison.] Bizet is a French Romantic composter.  & during the Romantic period, especially in the visual arts, French & other European artists were discovering the “Orient” – or the “Other” that was not European.  Romantic paintings were full of “Oriental” women in lavish silks, lying sexually on their sides – like Ingre’s Grande Odalisque & Delacroix’s The Women of Algiers [although more lavish silks, less sexualizing.]  Sometimes the...

cathy liu: welcome to the organic world

Image
We met Cathy Liu today. Before, when Mencher first introduced her, I was [I’m going to be real here; I pride myself on realness] on the fence about her body of work.  I thought it was just another set of blobs.  ‘Oh they’re pretty blobs, but they’re blobs,’ I first thought.  I didn’t really think that they were that fabulous.  I was actually pretty apathetic to it all.  I may have even rolled my eyes @ them.  I feel really bad about that now. But I was still relatively open to having my mind changed, I suppose.  Because after she started talking about her pieces, she converted me – not to a full believer [I don’t feel the urge to buy them], but I definitely do respect & enjoy her work now. AutumnBreeze Acrylic on canvas, 24" x 36" , 2011 Cathy Liu prides herself with simplicity.  Her earlier work was a bit cluttered, but now she is diving into the pure organic forms of things.  Some people see pl...

more damon, less africa express

Image
I swear I’ll be done with Damon soon! Actually that’s not a very good thing to swear on. But… I’ll probably try to restrain my desire to spam him for the rest of the month.  Which is only like 10 or so days… so that’s not actually saying much. But I just HAD to post this because it’s a real quality find. damonalbarn.tumblr.com  is just a fabulous resource for superfans like me.  Their team of 3 or so ladies is just always on top of everything Damon.  & they’ve delivered again with finding a lot of Damon’s notes when composing one of his best supergroup albums: The Good, The Bad, & the Queen [that album has done wonders for me as a person, especially getting me through hard times – especially helping me fall asleep after ridiculous emotional turmoil.]   Here are some quality little snippets into Damon’s mind that I find utterly fascinating.  ESPECIALLY SINCE A LOT OF THEM ARE LYRICS & DAMON IS A LYRICAL GENIOUS.  JUS...
