more africa express / damon spam

These are some of Damon’s handwritten notes.  I adore his handwriting.  His & Jamie’s  & my own.  Jamie’s & mine look like graffiti.  & Damon’s little signature with his little peace sign in the O is just one of the most adorable things.  It’s so him.

But it’s also so awesome to look into his mind like that.  The messy writing & “it’s a bit short but you get a sense of the journey Africa Express is talking.”  LOTS OF LOVE TO YOU, TOO, DAMON.  <3 adore="adore" amp="amp" being.="being." fabulously="fabulously" flawless="flawless" i="i" lovely="lovely" much="much" nbsp="nbsp" o:p="o:p" smart="smart" so="so" wonderfully="wonderfully" you="you">

But if you couldn’t tell, he is a hero of mine.  I’m so jealous of so many people running into him & posting their iPhone / smartphone pics with him.  I’m just… so jealous.  I mean I’ve seen him live, which is a lot more than some people… but I’d really love to just randomly run into him.  Maybe while I’m getting coffee.  & we strike up a random conversation in line.  & then we sit together & discuss the world.  Politics & music & anything on his mind & on my mind.  & then we just walk around & go into a record store & I’ll get to see Damon super animated as he talks about music & talks about all his favorite tracks everywhere.  Like his face will be oh so animated & his eyes will widen & he’ll throw his hands around & maybe even knock something over, & apologize profusely.  We’ll probably go into a music store & he’ll buy another instrument that he may or may not have & I’ll laugh because he’ll be so inspired by that & he’ll get frantic & hope not to lose it & we’ll rush back to his place & he makes a song just for me.  & I get to see him working with his melodica & his fucking museum of synthesizers.  & maybe he’ll teach me actually how to play music.  & he’ll laugh @ how inept I am, but he’d be a good teacher.  & maybe I stay for dinner & I sit right next to Missy, his daughter.  That would be absolutely living the dream.  & this absolutely will never happen to me.  But I can dream.

Another dream would be somehow working with him.  Commissioning him to make music for a project of some sort & actually getting to work with him.  That would be truly out of this fucking world, seeing the creative process & hopefully fueling it; him inspiring me, me inspiring him.  & then showing up on a whatever basis & checking in to see what work he has for me.  & then being impressed or maybe even helping him fine-tune a couple of things.  Maybe I get to sing a little bit, who knows.  But alas this will probably never come to pass either.

& here’s the extra behind the scenes video.  It’s so lovely to see these sorts of compilations.  Of course I wish I could have seen the different Africa Express shows, but I really wish I was just there on the train, conversing freely with them.  & seeing them jam freely with each other & just mingle on a cellular level.  I get the smallest of teaspoons with these vids… but @ least it’s better than nothing.

But everyone looks like they’re having so much FUN.  With all the dancing on the train & the skate-boarding & the drinking lol.  & Damon just hanging his head out of that window… it’s the happiest I’ve ever seen him.  This is his heaven; his element – this is the shit that he truly lives for.  Pure music, not music “standing” for something yet actually exploiting it.  Musical truths & not just those, just real GOOD music.

I wish I could’ve sat next to Damon on the train.  & watched him jam with everyone.  & then frantically write down those notes of his from above.  & then running around, acting like the buffoon that he is.  God I love him.

It’s just a mindgasm seeing Sir Paul alongside Damon performing, too.  Hopefully Damon becomes Sir Damon in a bit – it doesn’t have to be NOW, but like hopefully in the next 20 years or so.  If the Oasis fuck brothers get knighted & Damon doesn’t, I will just throw the biggest fit of all time.

& those beats.  I really DO wish I was there @ the shows.  Just… to see that Melancholy Hill.  That was just… I would’ve had a pure holy moment of music.

Damon Albarn will spark up any gathering with ease…he is funny and humble; he served every one some juice including me….1 love bro. - by Gboyega PapaGee Akerele

& on that note THANK YOU THE END TAX THE RICH.
